How can I fix this Error 2013 (hy00)?

How can I fix this Error 2013 (hy00)?

Phpmyadmin is access denied #2006 - MySQL server has gone away and I can't
login using mysql -u root -p, it only displays error 2013(hy00): Lost
connection to mysql server. Please help. Thanks!
